Connecticut’s first KonMari Consultant, Christine Thorn of Wolcott, has achieved Certified Gold status.
Her advancement comes a year after Thorn, whose consulting venture is called Sage of Interiors, moved from Bronze to Silver status. The next level is Certified Platinum, followed by the ultimate level, Certified Master.
Certified Gold requires consultants to complete 600 tidying hours with clients and have at least two clients complete a full “tidying festival.” Platinum status comes with 900 hours of tidying, and 1,500 tidying hours earns consultants Certified Master status.
“I’m delighted to move from Certified Silver to Certified Gold in just a year,” Thorn said of rising among consultants trained in KonMari Method tidying and decluttering by Marie Kondo and her team. “It’s a personal accomplishment whose true meaning comes from the lifestyle liberation my clients achieved from those hundreds of hours of hard work. The clutter that held them back is gone and in its place is only joy and possibility.”
“Achieving that magnitude of change isn’t easy,” Thorn added. “It requires a serious commitment, considerable time, and difficult decisions. Every client’s KonMari journey is different, but they share at least one commonality: the reward for all that hard work is joy that will stand the test of time.”
Thorn begins each KonMari journey with a complimentary phone consultation to discuss clutter that needs to be addressed and the lifestyle goals clients want to achieve through the tidying process.
KonMari Method tidying is completed by category, not by room, beginning with clothes, then books, and papers, komono (miscellaneous items), and, finally, sentimental items. A full tidying festival is composed of six lessons and completely transforms a client’s home.
At the heart of KonMari is the fundamental question about each object, Does this spark joy? Those that spark joy are allowed to remain, but must have a specific home, and those that no longer spark joy are thanked for their service and discarded. The result is living spaces that exude comfort and serenity.
“Clearing out mentally, clearing out physically in your house, the result is the same—a lightness, clarity, honoring yourself, loving yourself and being more peaceful,” said Thorn, who is highly regarded by Kondo’s team and was chosen to serve on a panel for the consultant certification courses in New York City in November 2019.
