Certified Silver KonMari Consultant Christine Thorn has been chosen by tidying visionary Marie Kondo’s team to serve on a panel for the KonMari Consultant Certification Courses in November in New York City.
KonMari Method certification courses take place this fall in both Los Angeles and New York, with the New York sessions set for November 1–3 and November 8–10 at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
The highlight each Sunday is a Certified Consultant Panel Discussion featuring three panelists representing different certification badge levels who will enrich the experience for KonMari Trainees with varying perspectives and experiences, according to the KonMari Team.
Joining Thorn on the Nov. 10 panel are Megan Zebroski of Boston (Certified Green), Effy Nicopoulous of Ontario, Canada, (Certified Silver), and Cassidy Nasello of Montclair, N.J. (Certified Gold).
Being chosen to participate in the panel discussion is a prestigious honor for Consultants, while “the panel and the opportunity to interact with Certified KCs is a major highlight for the participants,” the KonMari Team said in an email to Consultants chosen for the panels.
“I am thrilled and honored to have been chosen to participate as a panelist,” Thorn said. “It’s exciting to share with the Trainees my KonMari [business] journey experience with its own unique perspective. For me, being asked to share this is a positive affirmation of the goals I have set forth for myself.”
The KonMari Team asked Consultants interested in serving on a panel to send a brief description of the “niche” market they serve, as well as describing any interesting marketing efforts that yielded successful results and might be beneficial for the Trainees to hear.
“I would offer Trainees a unique and inspiring perspective on creating a path to success inspired by embracing the joyful message of Marie Kondo and KonMari to the fullest—and then sharing that philosophy and inspiration in the most genuine way possible,” Thorn said in her outreach.
In addressing the issue of marketing, Thorn described how much she prefers engaging one-on-one with people who need help with tidying or decluttering, or are just curious, by giving free presentations and providing education about the transformational power of KonMari.
Those presentations—almost all of them free—take place in venues all over Connecticut, including libraries, senior living residences, retreat centers, and hotel conference settings, allowing Thorn to engage with discerning women, and plenty of men too.
Thorn’s presentations include a constantly evolving suite of Google slides that incorporate elements such as before-and-after photos, KonMari Method folding videos, delineation of the KonMari principles and much more.
“[T]he key for me—which I think is important to share with Trainees—involves the power of truly embodying the tenets of KonMari, and sharing them widely, freely and as the equivalent of a public service,” she wrote to the KonMari Team choosing the panelists for the upcoming certification course weekend.
Thorn also wrote:
When you’re that genuine and your passion for what you’re doing and what you believe shines through, those in the audience who want to improve their lives feel that passion and respond with eagerness and trust.
The foundation for all of this depends upon having an honest passion for helping people with KonMari as a Consultant. No one should become certified as a Consultant simply as a strategic business move or career change “maneuver.” Not only do you need to embrace KonMari completely to achieve success, you need to embrace it as part of an informed, positive lifestyle devoted to caring and buoyed by a larger understanding of the life issues faced by clients who choose you to help improve their lives through KonMari.
I know this because of my background. For the past 27 years, I have been helping people with their body, mind, and spirit as a Chiropractor, Reflexologist, Reiki Master Practitioner, and Acupuncturist.
When that passion for helping others heal through their environment and home combined with inspiration from Marie’s book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up,” my own life journey took a wonderful new direction.
Sharing that story and my passion would prove highly beneficial to Trainees who might be thinking about their KonMari Consultant roles as a business venture rather than an exciting and uplifting new life mission.
Thorn’s message aligns with Marie Kondo’s vision for KonMari and the Consultant Program.
“At the core of KonMari is a desire for everyone in the world to experience the life-changing magic that comes from tidying. The KonMari Consultant Program is the realization of that dream – a global offering that enables Marie Kondo to share her joy-centering philosophy and unique tidying method with as many people as possible,” Kondo’s website says.
The first official certification course was held in New York in 2016, according to the website, which explains, “By then the demand for Marie’s help had skyrocketed. The success of her books, “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up,” and “Spark Joy,” had introduced the KonMari Method™ to millions of readers around the world. More and more people were seeking one-on-one tidying support, and the waiting list for Marie’s services was months-long. Marie and her husband, Takumi Kawahara – Co-founder and CEO of KonMari Media, Inc. – launched the Consultant Program to keep up.”
